Machinima project

For the my Digital Research project I have decided on the art style of Machinima. Machinima is an animation sub-genre. It’s a new animation genre that is a result of video games. Machinima is short movies made by using videogame engines and the content within the games. The direct definition of Machinima is the word  Machine combined with cinema. Even though the definition of what falls under the Genre has evolved in the last few years.

What falls under the machinima genre is movies made in games with its content and engine. But people have argued that if its related to the game its part of the genre. An example is  2d animated shorts of a game, even though it was not created in its engine. It still contains the games content, so its still machinima. But then anything game related would fall under the genre, so it doesn’t make any sense. The broader consideration is still be debated and finalized.

One of my favorite studios that make machinima work is Rooster Teeth. They are also one the most successful in this genre. The studio host a few different shows on their main website and on youtube. Their most famous show is Red vs Blue. This show is one of the main reasons the Machinima genre got popular and its main audience. Red vs Blue Is an on going series created in the game of halo. It has been running for over 10 years, starting as a comedy developing into a sci-fi plot separate of the halo universe.

Other popular machinima web series are usually created in minecraft, because its wide range of creating. Many people also create mods to modify the game in ways it normally can’t be used. Some mods are so extreme that it redecorates a games entirely and wouldn’t be recognizable. Many people also take game content and use it in real life shorts like Endermen stole my wallet.

After Reading the articles it gave me a better perspective of what my peers may have on the internet. I was surprise to learn that adults/parents were fearfully concerned about data that is collected from our use of the internet for commercial purposes. Since adult/parents are usually prideful of possessing a facebook(or any social media) to keep track of their teens or family members. Or playing the mini games offered by the website, even though facebook is the king of information snaring. It just something that almost doesn't make sense to me.

Though I agree that teens would be more concerned about the social aspect. Since most of them grew up in this technological age and know how to mange the data that social networks collect. So the data collecting is second nature. So logically society would be there next/main concern. Though having the links to disable old apps and parts of the account is handy. Usually you have to jump through hoops to get to it on certain sites.

I wish we the articles had more information on net neutrality. Since its been a big issue the last few years.

googling self

The search turned out exactly as I expected I will not appeared if googled because I have a common name. The results were facebooks of many other Helena Reyes. But to be fair I keep most of my art and online present under a different username/artist name. so I decided to google my username and the 3 result was the youtube associated with it. Even though I never post videos :/ I guess its because its the oldest account I have or because youtube and google are linked. interesting experiment none the less.
